Should You Publish Print-on-Demand, eBook Publishing or Both?

If you have written a book and you are seriously considering self-publishing it, then you are faced with a couple of different choices on how you are going to be self-publishing. Even if you are in a phase where you’re just outlining a novel, this is still advice that is important to take note of. One of the options out there is to use the print-on-demand platforms that have cropped up recently. It used to be that most independently published authors didn’t even bother with print books because they were so much more expensive than the e-books and because you used to have to order quite a few at a time in order to be able to sell them for a reasonable price.

That is no longer the case. With print-on-demand, when someone orders your book and paperback, it gets printed and then shipped out to them. Amazon has their own print-on-demand program that is an internal program within the Kindle direct publishing platform and you can go to create space as well although that companies also owned by Amazon.

Print-on-demand is a great idea for any author because all you have to do is take a few extra steps to get your book ready for print. You have to format it so that it looks the way that it would on the page and in a book and you have to create a cover that wraps all the way around. But the legitimacy that you get from having a novel offered as a print book in the listings on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and other sites will help you sell more books – both print and digital.

Still, if you decide that you do not want to mess with a print book, then you can go with an e-book. There are some cases in which a print book would be a bad idea. For example, if you have a full-color children’s book, you may have to charge so much for it that it isn’t worth listing it because of how much it cost to print out of full-color paperback with colored pages. So, there are some reasons that you should consider just publishing an e-book format anyway. Some people still read print books. In fact, the number is larger than you might expect. But still, more and more people are starting to read exclusively on digital devices every year. Some people have a lot of trouble getting into those format, and it might make sense to hire an IT Consulting Firms NYC.

Whichever one of these you choose, self-publishing is definitely one of the best decisions that you could make for your books. Self-publishing authors, if they build their backlist and promote their books consistently over a period of several years will end up making more on average than they would have if they had toiled away trying to get their books published by traditional publishers.

Traditional publishers are publishing fewer and fewer books these days anyway and paying authors smaller and smaller advances. But the world is wide open when it comes to publishing books through the many independent publishing platforms that are out there, and there is definitely money to be made by self-publishing.
